Winnipeg, Manitoba – February 6, 2024<\/em><\/p>

In May 2023, the Manitoba Provincial Government announced that long overdue funding would be provided to Pride Winnipeg to further our 2SLGBTQ+ community initiatives. As one of Pride Winnipeg\u2019s long-term goals, we are excited to announce the creation of the Manitoba Pride Alliance, the first of its kind in Canada.<\/p>

The Manitoba Pride Alliance (MPA) will strive to promote a culture of inclusion for Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and other gender and sexually diverse individuals throughout the province of Manitoba. Purpose Statements:<\/p>

  • Cr\u00e9er une communaut\u00e9 provinciale pour les organisations 2SLGBTQ+ qui organisent des \u00e9v\u00e9nements de la Fiert\u00e9, tels qu'un d\u00e9fil\u00e9, une marche, un rassemblement, un festival, une activit\u00e9 artistique ou culturelle, un \u00e9v\u00e9nement social ou une activit\u00e9 organis\u00e9e pour les personnes qui s'identifient comme 2SLGBTQ+.<\/li>
  • \u00c9tablir et soutenir des communaut\u00e9s manitobaines 2SLGBTQ+ dynamiques et fortes gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la collaboration, au soutien, au r\u00e9seautage, au partage de ressources et \u00e0 la d\u00e9fense des droits.<\/li>
  • Encouragez l'apprentissage mutuel en partageant les exp\u00e9riences, les connaissances et les meilleures pratiques concernant les activit\u00e9s et les \u00e9v\u00e9nements 2SLGBTQ+.<\/li>
  • Renforcer l'unit\u00e9 au sein du mouvement de la fiert\u00e9 partout au Manitoba gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l'\u00e9ducation, la programmation, les ressources, le r\u00e9seautage, la repr\u00e9sentation et les possibilit\u00e9s de financement.<\/li><\/ul>

    As part of Pride Winnipeg’s funding agreement with the province, the Manitoba Pride Alliance is required to provide educational workshops and training for its members, as well as allocate funding amongst Pride organizations in Manitoba to support MPA’s mission and purpose.<\/p>

    “After holding an initial introductory meeting in January with representation from Pride organizations across the entire province, it became clear to all in attendance that growing the Pride movement in our province can only be done one way — together.” says Jenn Rands, the Vice President of Advocacy with Pride Winnipeg and the newly
    appointed Chair of the Manitoba Pride Alliance. “Bringing together the voices and experiences of rural and remote Pride organizers will further the progress of equity and visibility for all 2SLGBTQ+ Manitobans.”<\/p>

    “The formation of the Manitoba Pride Alliance has been something Pride Winnipeg has envisioned since 2017, and to see it come to light is truly remarkable.” says Barry Karlenzig, President of Pride Winnipeg. “Myself and the entire Board of Directors are excited to see what the MPA team creates to ensure that 2SLGBTQ+ community voices are\u00a0heard and the Pride movement continues to grow. We also hope the funding from the Province of Manitoba continues for years to come to ensure this important organization can build and expand as a model for other\u00a0provinces in Canada.”<\/p>
