Winnipeg, Manitoba – June 2, 2024
Pride Winnipeg acknowledges their role in ensuring that Pride celebrations are safe and inclusive for all 2SLGBTQ+ community members.
In response to the community-led blockade that occurred during today’s parade, discussions were held at the blockade to reach a collective agreement for change.
Pride Winnipeg has fully committed to working with all areas of the community, starting with regular consultations moving forward to ensure that our organization and its events represent the voices and the diversity of all 2SLGBTQ+ individuals that we are here to serve. Consultations will begin next week.
Our community is diverse, powerful and vibrant – we commit to ensuring the future leadership of our organization represents that. Pride Winnipeg also commits to ensuring that our organization is safe and accessible to all members of our community, prioritizing 2SQTBIPOC representation in roles of leadership.
Pride started as a protest. The community-led group that gathered to block the parade did so peacefully, expressing their right to protest for change within Pride Winnipeg and our Pride celebrations.
Community creates change. Pride Winnipeg is committed to and will prioritize putting community voices back in the forefront of our vision, mission, values, and organizational policies.
